I have been to Internet World in London this year and the buzz was all about social marketing and how twitter, Facebook, and Linked In have changed the battle field of marketing...... If you are a search engine optimization guru or a wiz at digital marketing or you are just a casual business person you must be practicing the fine art of Word of Mouse ...!!!
Word of Mouse
I love the fact that I am a veteran, having lived through the normal non-Internet generation and this high tech world we are living in now where the mouse is much more stronger than the mouth. The world of the Internet and how news travel is much more faster than it used to be among communities sharing their little stories about the girl from next door or the guy from the finance department.
It first occurred to me how deeply we got affected with the use of our computers and laptop when the term click became synonym to press. Whenever I get into a lift and forget to press the button or I find the person inside just waiting, I often say you didn't click, meaning press the button to activate the lift. Building on that I would say that the use of Word of Mouse is a natural transition from where we come from. The way the Internet has spread and how popular it got, the way we strive for more information it all goes back to our nature , we simply love to talk ....
If you don't have a twitter account or one of the few who think that Facebook is spying on us, I don't blaim you , but you are not yet far away from the fine art of Word of Mouse because you probably use email and browse the internet and whenever an email or a page on a website seems interesting, you naturally hit the forward to a friend button on that webpage, if available, or the forward button on your email program and send that interesting piece of information to a friend or a relative... So Word of Mouse don't feel left out we are all doing it even if we think we are not doing it... It is digital gossip, a modern and definitive method of spreading information among communities that were once considered distant and irrelevant
So don't feel left out get a twitter account start following people of interest to you or within your field of knowledge. Get a linkedIn business profile setup , someone somewhere will follow you on twitter or connect to you on LinkedIn and probably look you up and add you as a friend on facebook, one way or another we are all in this new model of Word of Mouse
